Meet Our Occupational Therapist
Nadia Johnson, MScOT, ATRIC, OT (R)
Hi! I am Nadia Johnson. I graduated with a Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy (OT) in November 2018 from Brunel University London (originally the London School of Occupational Therapy) and returned to my island home, Barbados, to begin practicing Occupational Therapy.
Between 2020 and 2021, I also joined the therapy team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados as a privately contracted Occupational Therapist in the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit. Independent Abilities opened in January 2021starting with home visits only. The Occupational Therapy clinic officially opened in late July 2021.
My primary area of practice is adult physical disabilities, with a particular focus in Neurology. Independent Abilities services adults who have experienced a stroke or spinal cord injury or have various neurological conditions.
Additionally, I have always had a love for the water, and this led to exploring how to merge my two passions, the water and helping people. I am presently the only certified Aquatic Therapy and Rehabilitation Occupational Therapist in Barbados.
I have been an active member of the Association of Caribbean Occupational Therapists (ACOT) and the Barbados Occupational Therapy Association (BOTA) since 2018 and currently hold positions on both Executive Boards: ACOT Treasurer and BOTA Vice President and Co-Treasurer. In addition, I previously served as Barbados Country Representative for ACOT and as the Public Relations Officer for BOTA.
“Your Ability to Remain Independent Is Our Priority”
